SUMMARY:Volunteer with DC Central Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Important: You must RSVP here with your name and email and register and sign up on the DC Central Kitchen site. If you only RSVP here you are not signed up. \n\n\n\nFills Up Fast: Shifts at DC Central Kitchen fill up fast. If you would like to volunteer we recommend signing up weeks in advance. \n\n\n\nEvery day\, dedicated volunteers help DC Central Kitchen transform ingredients into more than 16\,000 balanced meals for our community. As a volunteer\, you will work with our culinary staff\, as well as students of our Culinary Job Training program\, to cut\, chop\, peel\, and prep food in our kitchen. \n\n\n\nPlan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your shift time to allow enough time for orientation. Also note that late arrivals may not be able to volunteer for their scheduled shift. \n\n\n\nHow to get here: DCCK is located in the Buzzard Point neighborhood behind Audi Field. Our front entrance is on V St between First and 2nd St.  We are located closest to Waterfront Metro Station (Green Line). We have a DCCK shuttle that runs every 15 minutes between Waterfront Metro and our facility Monday through Friday between 6:30am – 9:30am\, and 3:30pm – 6:30pm. There is also a metro bus (Bus 74) that runs between the Waterfront station and directly in front our facility. James Creek Marina Parking Lot ($20 Daily). Bike Racks are located on site if guests would like to transport via bicycle (Each guest would have to provide own locks to lock bike).Dress Code: Safety is DCCK’s number one concern. All volunteers must wear appropriate and professional attire suitable for an industrial production kitchen. Shoes with high-grip soles are strongly recommended. Due to health regulations\, volunteers who do not follow this dress code will not be allowed to work in the Kitchen. \n\n\n\n\nLong pants (no skirts\, no shorts)\n\n\n\nClosed toe shoes\n\n\n\nNo tank or halter tops\, no dresses\n\n\n\nHair must be up and out of face. (We will provide hair nets.)\n\n\n\nMasks are not required; however\, they will be available for those who would prefer to wear them.

SUMMARY:Urban Tree Identification Walk - Fall Edition
DESCRIPTION:Want to be able to tell a red oak from a white oak? Curious why some trees turn fiery red while others go for gold? \n\n\n\nMaster Naturalist & RPCV Belize Rob Landolfi returns for an interactive guided walk through neighborhoods\, learning how to identify trees from their bark\, leaves\, shape\, and more! If you joined us for the Earth Day walk in April\, we will check out some of the same trees and how they change with the season. \n\n\n\nThe all-ages 90-minute walk will be about 1.5 miles on mostly flat\, paved surfaces. Well-behaved dogs and costumes welcome! \n\n\n\nMeet at the NoMa metro station\, Florida Ave exit. Look for us by the maple leaf sculpture. \n\n\n\nWe’ll end with an optional social event at Lost Generation Brewing Company (327 S St NE). In addition to award-winning beers\, Lost Generation has non-alcoholic beverages and snacks\, plus the resident Silver & Sons Barbecue food truck. \n\n\n\nRain date: Sun\, Nov 1

SUMMARY:JFK Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:In 1984\, a handful of RPCVs\, accompanied by Sargent Shriver\, gathered at Arlington Cemetery to dwell on President Kennedy’s legacy and lay a wreath at his Eternal Flame. That simple ceremony became a tradition that we honor every year around the time of his birth. We will begin at the Visitor Center\, where we will gather and invite participants to share their thoughts on his vision of the Peace Corps and its role in global affairs. We will then proceed to his gravesite\, display a wreath in his honor and invite the group to pause for quiet reflection. Parking is available and location is metro accesible.  \n\n\n\nHappy hour at Continental Pool Lounge to follow.
